About Audrey Pavia
Audrey Pavia was born in New York City, where she lived until the age of two. When Audrey was still a toddler, her family heeded the westward call and moved to Los Angeles, where Audrey spent her youth. She fell in love with animals and science at a young age, and played "mom" to a variety of pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, lizards, mice, hamsters, birds, snakes, guppies and a horse.
After graduating El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, Calif., she worked at various jobs including key shop manager, and cashier at Sears. At the age of 21, she returned to New York City and became a student at New York University in Manhattan. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and a minor in Astronomy.
While living in New York, Audrey worked for several years as an editor for a home fashion trade magazine, then moved on to become an editor for the American Kennel Club Gazette. After five years with the AKC, she accepted a position as managing editor on Dog Fancy magazine in Irvine, Calif., and moved back to the Golden State. Shortly after, she became editor of Horse Illustrated magazine. Audrey left the position in 1995 to pursue a full-time career in freelance writing and editing.
Audrey lives in Norco, Calif., with her husband, Randy Mastronicola. They share their home with a Colonial Spanish Horse [http://www.spanishmustang.org/index1.html] gelding named Milagro Ghost Dancer (SMR), a Quarter Horse gelding named Red Playboy (AQHA), a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Ninacorte's Nigel Tuff S Nails, NA, NJ, CGC, HI (AKC), four cats named Cheddar (who is studying to become a Delta Society pet therapist), Stanley, Bodhi and Erma, and a Rex rabbit named Prudence.
Audrey and Nigel compete in American Kennel Club agility events, and are currently working on their Open title. Nigel is also a TDI certified therapy dog, and visits nursing homes with Randy. Audrey and Milagro participate in NATRC competitive trail riding. Audrey's hobbies include photography, birding, hiking, music, film, reading and gardening. Her greatest passion in life is horses, her favorite color is turquoise, and her favorite food is the California avocado.
